Beeji Banter 3: Phoebe Galloway's Motherhood Journey

Beeji Banter 3: Phoebe Galloway's Motherhood Journey

As Mother’s Day approaches, we caught up with Phoebe Galloway, the talented filmmaker behind @phoebegallowayfilms and the loving mother of Wally.

She graciously shares her reflections on the invaluable and selfless support her own mother @nourishedspace has provided throughout her journey into motherhood.

It’s my first Mother’s Day this year, and as we approach, I look forward to the potential of a Sunday morning bakery treat or perhaps a cheeky sleep-in to celebrate my first 9 months of motherhood. However, the lead-up also has me thinking about my mum, now affectionately known as Wally’s Nanna Fi, and what I have learned from her on my journey through motherhood so far.

When Walter was born, my mum moved into the apartment next door to me for the first 3 months of his life. Her support went beyond words of congratulations, although those were deeply appreciated. It was her time and presence that Mum selflessly offered us in those initial months of parenthood that was the greatest support of all.

Every evening, Mum cooked us dinner. During the day, she would slip into our apartment to tidy up or hang out some washing and just simply be there while we navigated the chaos of becoming parents. Whether it was looking after Wally while we worked or providing us brief moments of time for a movie date or a quick swim, her generosity in those months is something I will forever be thankful for.

Mum’s time living next door to us was such an incredible lesson and example of motherhood for me. She showed me continuous selflessness, love, nurture, and patience, something I’ve now learned is needed every day in life as a mum.

So to Mum, Nanna Fi, Happy Mother’s Day, and thank you for that time. It was truly so special, and I can never thank you enough for everything you have done and continue to do for not only me but our entire family

x Phoebe
