What's your name and where are you based?
Hi! My name’s Cecilia — I’m a Filipino mama who has called Brisbane home for nearly a decade now.
How did you get into creating fits for toddlers?
Even before I had my son, I had always enjoyed curating my wardrobe, especially when travelling.I have a love-hate relationship with packing, because on one hand, I dislike that I am neurotic about keeping things organised (so I take forever to start); on the other, I love planning what to wear! I delighted in doing it for myself and for others. Last year, I created a five-page PDF for my mum’s EU girls trip; it was complete with her itinerary and outfits to wear for every activity. I might be obsessed at this point.
The Silly Dobo came about primarily because my phone storage was nearing its end; my camera roll was crammed full. I am sure every first-time parent needed an extra cloud to document everything. I figured social media would be a clever way to keep my look books without my phone screaming for dear life. Initially, it was just going to be a private dump account; I’m glad I decided to share it!
What are your three top tips for styling toddlers?
Personally, these are the three things I prioritise:
-
Comfort. Toddlers are busy and quick! They require clothing that allows them to effortlessly navigate the world around them. Needless to say, arguments with little humans are dreadful. When they refuse to wear the itchy-but-cute powder blue cardigan with whimsical embroidery (yes, it’s that cute), they are not going to wear it no matter how good your negotiation skills are.
-
Creativity. Toddlerhood is a great, explorative stage where you can embrace all colours, patterns, textures, and styles! Incorporating and trialling these different elements — like mix and matching colours — can make dressing a fun and engaging activity! And remember, the outfits do not always have to make sense.
-
Choice. Putting clothes on your toddler can be a power struggle. Since toddlers like to assume control, providing them with an opportunity to make choices of their own — like choosing what to wear — can make a difference. Moreover, showing appreciation to their choices can boost their confidence!
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Interior design, arthouse films, and a penchant for storytelling 🙂

What's currently in your cart and why?

Where do you want Silly Dobo to go?
It has been a month since I began sharing the little outfit inspirations and I feel lucky to have already met like minded mums, artists, and brands who have been encouraging and uplifting. So I hope I do the same; I hope The Silly Dobo can be my avenue to inspire others.
Personal goals wise, I try not to candidly share anything before they happen, in fear of jinxing it, but here’s to manifesting a path towards art direction, particularly in fashion editorial photography. It may be a long road ahead but it’s free to dream!
